Dune

DuneDune by Frank Herbert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Second time of reading this, and I still don't quite know why I like it. It certainly isn't my normal kind of reading fare. In places it seems pretentious and incomprehensible, but it also has a compelling and page turning quality that grips you and keeps you reading. It's also a toweringly complex vision of the future, and a magnificently well imagined universe.

For that reason, I'm in awe of it, and can even see myself reading it again some time. I also find myself strangely fond of Paul, and his mother Jessica, even though sometimes they come across as rather cold characters.

Should I start on the sequels? Maybe... maybe not. I think I need a change of scene for the moment.
